1970’s Modular Construction of the Polynesian Resort

Modular construction used by Disney in the 1970s.

I came across this pictorial blog article highlighting the modular construction of the Polynesian Resort at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida back in 1970. I found it fascinating and wanted to share.

With the Polynesian Resort still in use today, it could be thought of as a testimonial of sorts. That fact could also be thought of as evidence to dispel the myth that modular construction has a shorter life span than site-built construction.

Imagineering Disney is an unofficial blog authored by a couple of folks who reportedly worked for Disney in the past and they definitely have access to some terrific photographs. Take a look at the modular construction project depicted below.

Modular guest rooms were fabricated in a warehouse on the east end of the Disney Compound by US steelworkers before being trucked over to the location:
